Home Run
The Hollywood Studios have a huge challenge to offer a high quality product for the “download-free” and “interactive couch potato” generation.
The investment to launch a movie is still very expensive and the return from the movies is shrinking slowly. Based on the workshops that we attended, I got the impression that each Studio, TV and Media Network, has a different strategy to survive in the current turbulence of the industry and keep making profits.
For example, Disney invests in merchandising and 3D technology. They acquired Pixar and recently, they acquired Marvel to fulfill the “boys” segment.

Warner Bros. is investing in other types of entertainment such as video games for different platforms such as PC, XBox, Play Station, Wii.

20th Century Fox Film is going towards the globalization strategy. They realized that globalization is not merely exportation. Fox has offices in different countries and is investing in film production in countries like India.

During our week in LA, many Studios mentioned that among many movies launched, they needed a block buster or “home run” movie to make profits.

Here we are! On June 28, in San Francisco, we went to the Baseball game San Francisco Giants vs Los Angeles Dodgers to see a real “Home Run” and close the amazing Entertainment Hollywood week.
